Exmoor National Park covers 267 square miles of the beautiful rolling Devon and Somerset countryside. No prizes for guessing why this plays host to the UK half ironman or the famous Exmoor Beast cycle race. You are more likely to find yourself dodging stags and ponies than you would black cabs and big red buses! Open water swimming in the Wimbleball Lake is a triathletes dream with perfect conditions for your wetsuit training, practicing techniques, drafting and transitional changes. The beautiful trails around the lake forks off and leads runners into the true English countryside lanes with hardly a car in sight. The undulations can be deceiving but the beauty takes your mind off it. Outside of training Exmoor has a lot to see with the historic market town of Dulverton and Lorna Doone country, West Somerset's coastal strip with the Quantock Hills, ancient port of Watchet and the seaside harbour resort of Minehead. Whether it’s an escape from the city’s or an international destination, the charm of Exmoor is an excellent choice for a training holiday with a difference. |
