The Tour of the Algarve (“Volta ao Algarve”) is a major cycle race in February and has been won by the likes of Alberto Contador (2009/10) and Floyd Landis (2004). In 2010 the 36th edition took place between 17th - 21st of February. More than 200 cyclists and 23 national and international teams challenged each other to win this race.

The fifth and final stage of the tour takes place on the Monchique mountain ranges where we ride on our triathlon holidays. In fact the 2nd stage finishes on a hill 200m up the road from one of our main villas in Lagos. We have now nicknamed this hill ‘Greipel Hill’ after his 2010 emphatic sprint finish up it after 206km of peloton riding.

In February 2011 Embrace is going to hold a Tour of the Algarve cycling holiday based around supporting the pro tour racing teams, and riding the actual stages of the Tour of the Algarve.

Dates
Dates are yet to be confirmed for the actual 2011 Tour but we anticipate it will be between the 23rd – 27th February. If this is the case the Embrace Tour of the Algarve holiday will run from 20th – 27th February.
